Last week, the Peabodys gave Ava DuVernay’s Array its Institutional Award, Sam Pollard the Peabody Career Achievement Award, and PBS and CNN anchor Judy Woodruff the Peabody Award for Journalistic Integrity. Joining Disney Channel’s The Owl House as a Children’s & Youth winner today is Apple TV+’s Stillwater, which the Peabody jury called “a calm and soothing balm in the typically frenetic world of children’s television.” NewsHour also won for its “relentless and comprehensive reporting” that “gave us the best news coverage of a once-in-a-century global pandemic.” In the News section, ABC News’ 20/20‘s Breonna Taylor investigation piece was honored today along with a second Peabody this year for PBS NewsHour, for Desperate Journey, a journey with migrants long the border of Colombia and Panama. They join a list this year that includes Oscar nominees Time from Garrett Bradley and Amazon Studios, HBO’s Collective and Netflix’s Crip Camp, along with MTV Documentary Films’ 76 Daysand Netflix’s Immigration Nation. Other winners announced today included Nat Geo’s Oscar-nominated Syrian crisis pic The Cave from Feras Fayyad and HBO’s LGBTQ rights pic Welcome to Chechnya from David France in the Documentary section.
